Materials are particularly useful for:

Great off-hand for inf-rng heavy mix, outclassed by a Champion Lamp with decent astralite. The Lamp itself isn't a recommended Champion upgrade though — other Champion pieces are more valuable to focus on.

Best in slot helm for inf blast, on par with Beast Helm; useful for inf-rng heavy mix comps if you don't have a Champion Visor with good astralite.
Use the lineups above to hunt Serpent Gladiator at every stage of the game: the F2P team uses free heroes only, the P2P team relies on purchasable heroes, and the 11K team is built around the egregiously expensive 11K heroes. Rows are split by monster level — higher levels hit harder and need the stronger teams.
